Young digital users are often highly skilled at leveraging the internet and digital technologies, yet they are also the ones most vulnerable when it comes to the online risks. The network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs), co-funded under the Digital Europe Programme, aims to raise awareness about online safety issues and to mitigate the risks children and young people are exposed to. The SICs provide educational resources, training, advice and counselling, and services to anonymously report child sexual abuse material, through national awareness centres, helplines and hotlines. Through the European strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK+), the EU aims to improve age-appropriate digital services so that every child is protected, empowered and respected online.
In 2022-2023, the EU allocated €44 million to support the activities of the SICs in EU Member States, in Norway, and most recently, in Albania and North Macedonia. You can find out more about the SICs’ key activities, policy background and funding overview in our recently published Safer Internet factsheet! Read on to find the SIC in your country, understand what they provide, and how they work towards ensuring that the internet use is safe for all.
